about ECO-CLUB PROGRAMME

National Green Corps (NGC), commonly known as ECO-CLUB Programme, is an ambitious programme of MoEF&CC, Govt. of India which aims at spreading environmental awareness among school children and involving them in environment related activities by formation of eco-clubs. The programme was launched at National level during a conference of Ministers of Environment & Forests of the State Government and UTs during 29th - 30th January 2001 at Coimbatore. Hon'ble Chief Minister, Odisha announced launching of the programme in Odisha on 05.06.2001, during celebration of World Environment Day.

CES is the State Nodal Agency for National Green Corps (NGC) Programme. Under this programme there are 14,250 Eco-clubs are functioning in the State mostly in schools & few junior colleges. Out of which 2000 eco-clubs are funded by State Government. Rest 12,250 eco-clubs are funded by MoEF&CC, Government of India. Eco-club schools are carrying out both awareness & action based program related to environment throughout the year.

Main Objectives of this Programme :

  • To make children understand environment & environmental problems.
  • To provide environmental education opportunities for school children.
  • To utilize the unique position of school children as conduits for awareness of the society at large.
  • To facilitate children's participation in decision making in areas related to environment.
  • To bring children into direct contact with the environmental problems facing the society they live in & make them think of solutions.
  • To involve children in action-based programs related to environment in their surroundings.
